Volunteers Needed for Bicycle Train Research Project

Cascade is partnering with Children’s Hospital on an exciting Bicycle Train research project to assess the health benefits of bicycling to school. This study has the potential to help Cascade and other organizations doing Safe Routes to School work by providing some solid data on the health benefits of bicycling to school. Bicycle Trains are organized groups of youth with adult volunteers who ride to school as a group, similar to a Walking School Bus in which kids walk to school together.

In mid-November, on a typical Seattle rainy day, Dutchman Dirk Spits rolled into town on his custom German-made touring bike, glad to discover that his bike bags were indeed waterproof. Already 23 weeks into his journey, Seattle is one of the many cities Dirk will stop to raise awareness and funds on his way to Latin America where he will personally deliver these donations to a variety of charities.

If we are going to plan, design and build a brand new place to bike and walk in Delridge, let's make sure we get it right. The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is hosting an open house in Delridge this Tuesday, Nov.19, that will give neighbors a chance to show support for the Delridge Neighborhood Greenway along 21st and 17th avenues SW between the West Seattle Bridge Trail and SW Cambridge Street.

A Salute to Lamar Bass

A member since 1988, Lamar Bass has been a fixture at Cascade Bicycle Club for many years. He has been an avid rider, a mentor, Cascade Advocacy Committee member, a ride leader, a major donor and an irreplaceable super volunteer. Anyone who has visited or called the Cascade office in the past 13 years has probably met him, as he would regularly put in 60-70-hour weeks.
