UPDATE: Town Hall Meeting date set; volunteers sought for committees

News from the Cascade Bicycle Club board of directors:

11/19 UPDATE: The board of directors requests that members submit suggested names of candidates to run for director positions to the nominating committee for consideration for inclusion on the slate of candidates for director.  Interested members should act promptly to volunteer or submit their recommendations by the end of December as the nominating committee must submit its recommended slate to the board no later than January 10, 2011.  Email your resume or recommendations to nominations@cascadebicycleclub.org.

The Town Hall will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 30 from 6:30 to 8 p.m at the Mountaineers in Magnuson Park.

Over the past few weeks, the board of directors and staff have received many suggestions from members seeking new ways to become involved in charting the direction of the Cascade Bicycle Club. The board of directors deeply appreciates members’ interest and welcomes increased participation from all of you who are passionate and committed to Cascade’s mission and vision. Our club is its members, and your commitment and involvement will help us grow in strength and effectiveness. Please find your opportunity to get involved in one or more of the following ways. We also welcome your continuing feedback on how to enhance members’ participation in the future growth and development of our club.

Town Hall Meeting: Nov. 30
Save the date for our first Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 30 from 6:30 to 8 p.m at the Mountaineers in Magnuson Park. The meeting will offer an opportunity to discuss recent developments and other topics of interest to members.

Next board meeting: Nov. 17
The next board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 17, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Cascade Bicycle Club’s offices in Magnuson Park. The major item of business is review and approval of Cascade’s 2011 budget. Also on the agenda is an update on the Strategic Plan, IT upgrade project, and each of the three committees described below. Board meetings are open to all members.

Executive Director Selection Committee
The board has formed an Executive Director Selection Committee that will conduct a national search for a new executive director and make its recommendation to the full board. Members of the committee will include board member Peter Morgan as chair, another board member, one or two staff and two club members at-large to be appointed by the chair.

If you are interested in serving on the ED Selection Committee or would like to suggest a member who you think would be a good choice, please email your suggestion (with contact information) to edselectioncommittee@cascadebicycleclub.org. If you suggest another member, please inquire with that member first to make sure s/he is interested. We anticipate a volunteer commitment of 25+ hours/month for three to five months.

Bylaw Review Committee
The Club has also established a Bylaw Review Committee. The bylaws review will include open membership comment periods. Ideally, the committee will represent a cross-section of the membership, including people with both expertise in non-profit membership organization bylaw writing and those who can offer fresh perspectives from a range of relevant backgrounds. If you are interested in serving on the Bylaw Review Committee, or would like to suggest someone who can offer useful skills to this effort, please contact Bylaw Review Committee Chair Joey Gray at cbcbylaws@cascadebicycleclub.org by Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010. The volunteer commitment will be for an average of approximately 20 hrs/mo. from January to October, 2011.

Nominating Committee
The 2010 election for directors was adjourned to ~ March 22, 2011. In the interim, the board reconvened the Nominating Committee, which will interview and develop a slate of candidates to stand for election to the board of directors. Committee members include board member Don Volta as chair, board member Michael Lazarus, Chuck Ayers and two members to be appointed by the chair.

The Nominating Committee will present the slate to the full board for review and approval, with an election to follow in March. For 2011, the number of directors has been increased to 15 directors, and we’d like to have enough nominees to offer members choices. If you are interested in serving on the Nominating Committee or would like to suggest a member who you think would be a good choice, please email your suggestion (with contact information) to nominations@cascadebicycleclub.org If you suggest another member, please inquire with that member first to make sure s/he is interested. Please anticipate a volunteer commitment of 20+ hours/month through March.
