Free Group Ride
Eastside Climbing # 2 - Hilltop-Newport Hills-Somerset
Event has already happened.
Let's meet at Lewis Creek Park by the Visitors Center. If you are not familiar with this part of Bellevue, please use Google Maps to get directions. Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
This is the 2nd of an anticipated short series of rides with the goal of helping cyclists get better at climbing, especially those who are not already "good" on hills and want to improve. There may be some scenic vistas on this, and subsequent rides, weather permitting. If you are not familiar with the East Side - Bellevue, Newcastle, Renton, Issaquah, this is a great way to become familiar with some of the neighborhoods! Please make sure that your Brakes are in good working order, and that your derailleur, especially the lower gears, is functioning well!
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will Regroup Frequently. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH).
Restrooms are available at the start. Our first stop will be for coffee/snacks at the QFC on 145th Ave, near Robinswood Park (Mile 11.3). An optional rest stop will be available at the new Newport Hills OLA and Park (mile 18.5).
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. Will plan to ride if there are occasional brief showers, but if the forecast is for "steady, heavy" rain, or if freezing conditions have occurred overnight, the ride will be canceled (safety is paramount). If the ride is canceled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
