Free Group Ride
Lakemont-Bellevue-Eastgate Intro to East-Side Climbing.
Event has already happened.
Let's meet at the Lakemont Community Park. Please use Google Maps to get directions. This has adequate parking, but is not easy to find. Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
This is the first of an anticipated "short series" of rides that are geared towards getting cyclists ready for longer climbing rides such as the Chilly Hilly. These rides are meant for those cyclists who find hills "challenging", and want to get better at doing them. This is not primarily meant for those who are already "really good" at hills. However, they are welcome to participate on these rides, but must be patient with the rest of the riders. These will not be on every weekend, but probably about twice a month. Be prepared for cold weather, and occasional drizzle/light rain conditions, but will not be riding in steady/heavy rain, or if freezing conditions have occurred overnight along the proposed route.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will regroup frequently. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH).
Restrooms are available at the start. We will stop along the way for restrooms/water at Lake Hills Park near mile 9, and We’ll plan to stop for coffee/snacks at the QFC on 145th Place near Robinswood, approximately mile 17.The QFC has a Starbucks inside.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Also, make sure that your brakes are in good working order, and check that your lowest gears shift without problems. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancelation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is canceled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
