**CANCELLED** PenMet Park's Family Fun Fest & Bike Bash - Ride from the Park and Ride to the Park!
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
Penmet Park's annual Family Fun Fest and Bike Bash at Gig Harbor's Sehmel Homestead Park features family-friendly entertainment, live music, food trucks, a maker’s market, a bike rodeo, and street skills course. This popular, free event celebrates community and biking. Let's save the parking spots at the park for those who can't bike and have some fun biking in together from the park and ride.
We'll take the scenic route, past the Tacoma Narrows and Fox Island Bridges, to the park. Sehmel park is at mile 20 of the route. Once there, we'll take a long break to enjoy the festivities. We'll regroup at 2:30pm for a more direct route back to the park and ride.
You are welcome to ride with us to the park and not return with the group or to meet us at the park for the return. We'll start the ride with introductions and a safety briefing and it will be repeated for any riders that join us for the return only. If you are joining us for the ride to the park, please be at the park and ride, ready to ride, at the ride start time. If you are joining us for the return only, please meet us in front of the pavillion at the park at 2:30pm, ready to ride.
All riders, including youth riding on adult's bikes or in trailers, must be registered for the ride. You do not need to be a member of Cascade Bicycle Club to register, but if you do not have an account, you must create one (free) in order to register and sign the electronic ride waiver.
Youth under 15 must be accompanied at all times by either their parent or legal guardian, or an adult designated as their guardian for the ride by their parent or legal guardian. Please refer to our information for parents. Anyone under 18 must come with a completed parental consent form. Some of this ride is along Cushman Trail, but most is on country roads shared with motor vehicles. It is also hilly - unfortunately not appropriate for young children unless they are in trailers or otherwise attached to adults' bikes.
The steady pace of 12-14 miles per hour is the speed we will be traveling on flat sections without wind. We will be going faster on downhills and with tailwinds and slower uphill and against the wind. We will regroup after hills and before turns if we are spread out.
Restrooms and ample parking are available at the park and ride. If you are leaving a vehicle at the park and ride, do not leave valuables, or anything that appears to be valuable visible, in your vehicle.
Helmets are required for all participants on Cascade Free Group Rides. Other items to bring: water, small snacks, ID, a charged cell phone, cash, credit card, a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancelation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the ride will be canceled. Cancelations will be noted in the ride title and registered riders will be notified by email. If the ride is canceled two or more hours before the ride start, the ride leader will not be at the start location.
Feel free to reach out to the ride leader, whose contact information is provided above, BEFORE the day of the ride if you have questions or trouble registering. You may also ask questions in the comments section of this post.
