Free Group Ride
Ride the new Totem Lake Connector Bridge and then have coffee
Event has already happened.
Come with us on a 21-mile ride from Blyth Park in Bothell at a steady pace (12-14mph on flat road, no wind) to Kirkland's Carillon Point via streets. then to the Kirkland Cross Corridor Trail (gravel) and over the newly completed Totem Lake Connector Bridge, and on to Woodinville via a section of the Eastrail (gravel, then pavement), for a coffee stop before returning to the start. In case you're not familiar with the gravel trails in question, they are quite rideable on most road bike tires.
Let's meet at Blyth Park near the restrooms and please be ready to ride at the start time posted above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and will regroup frequently. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH).
Restrooms are available at the start. We will have a brief restroom stop at Kirkland Marina Park at mile 6. The coffee/food stop is at mile 18.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case, and have a plan for getting back to start or home in case of a mechanical problem that can't be solved en route.
Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group. Mud guards (buddy flaps) on your fenders, especially if they reach to 2-4 inches above the pavement, are a great benefit to the rider behind you!
There is ample parking at Blyth Park, but if you are driving from the west or south you might prefer to park at the former Wayne Golf Course (now Bothell Red Brick Road Park) at 96th Ave/Waynita Way and bike through the trail tunnel, continuing straight across the bridge to reach Blyth on your right in just a few 100 yards.
The weather is likely to be quite warm, so be sure to bring adequate hydration, as well as any snacks you might want to consume at or before the coffee stop.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancelation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
