Free Group Ride
Kenmore-Golden Gardens
Event has already happened.
Join us for an eclectic urban ramble to Golden Gardens Park. This route dishes out a bit of everything, beginning with a long warm-up on the Burke Gilman Trail as we head to Gas Works Park and its view of Seattle. From there we continue to Golden Gardens for another lovely view, a restroom stop, and quick BYO snack before we begin our climb up from the water's edge. While total elevation doesn't sound like much, most of the 1418' comes in the last 15 miles as we work our way through Seattle neighborhoods towards Maple Leaf where we'll restore the calories burned climbing with a snack (~30 minutes) at the delicious Blue Saucer Cafe before the final 9 miles of our ride.
PACE: We'll maintain a moderate pace (14-16 mph) on the flats w/o benefit or hindrance of wind and adhere to trail speed limits accordingly. Ascents/descents will be ridden at rider's own pace as we will regroup at top and bottom of hills. Pace may be slower as well as we work our way through some neighborhoods. Riders significantly off group pace may be asked to complete the ride on their own. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH).
FOOD: While a food stop is planned, it is highly recommended that riders carry ample hydration and a snack in case we are delayed and to enjoy at rest stops.
FENDERS: For the safety and comfort of your fellow riders as well as yourself, long fenders with buddy flaps that extend to within a few inches of the road are appreciated if roads are damp or rain is possible. If you do not have fenders you may be asked to ride in the back of the group.
FLATS & MECHANICALS: Riders should bring tools & knowledge to repair flats or minor mechanicals and be prepared to complete the ride on your own should your bike require repair. Please have a backup plan (someone to call or an ORCA card) if you or your bike will not get you to the finish.
RIDE START & TIME: Let's meet at Bothell Ski & Bike in Kenmore, and please be ready to ride at 10:00. We'll start with a required safety briefing and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
PARKING: Please park in the spaces on the west side of the lot so we don't impede Bothell Bike's customers. If necessary, overflow parking is available across 522 along the side road (NE 175th St.), accessible from 73rd Ave NE just west of Bothell Bike. A crosswalk for 522 is at the corner for safe access to Bothell Bike.
RESTROOMS: Restrooms and water may not be available at the start (closed Wednesdays), but we'll have several options on the trail. Please plan accordingly. Planned restroom stops are at miles 14, 20, and our food stop.
REGISTRATION REQUIRED: Click on red Register Now button at the top. Please unregister if you decide not to ride so that another may rider may join the ride.
CANCELLATION: Ride will be cancelled for steady rain or other dangerous road and weather conditions. Should conditions call for a cancellation day of ride, a cancellation notice will be posted in comments below at least two hours prior. If conditions are questionable please check here before leaving for the start. Leader will not be at start if ride is canceled 2+ hours prior to ride start.
ROUTE: Ride With GPS route link is below. Please have route loaded on a fully charged GPS device or phone or print a cue sheet if you need one.
