Sunday Morning North Lake Lap via I-90
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
Join a 40+-mile ride around the north end of Lake Washington via King County's excellent multiuse trail system and some streets. This is a variation of a "North Lake Lap" that passes through Medina (home to numerous billionaires), Beaux Arts Village, Leschi, and the Montlake neighborhoods.
We start from Wayne Park and roll at a brisk (less than or equal to 18mph) *effort level* when on streets. About a third of this ride is on multiuse trails which have a speed limit of 15mph. We may roll at up to 18mph on the flats when not on the trail system. The Burke Gilman Trail between University of Washington and Wayne Park is typically quite busy on Sunday mornings and we will ride in a way that respects all trail users.
Although mostly flat, there is hilly and rolling terrain between Wayne Park and the east side of the I-90 bridge, and again between the west side of the I-90 bridge and University of Washington. We'll stop to regroup as needed on the tops of the hills. We'll coast or soft-pedal after descents until the group reforms.
There will be a brief stop at the Rainier Vista park area between the University of Washington and the UW Light Rail Station at mile ~27. Be prepared to drink and snack while riding.
There are restrooms at Blyth Park on the east side of the Burke Gilman Tunnel which is at the east end of the Wayne Park parking lot. There are also restrooms near the west side of Mercer Island and we will stop there if necessary. Arrive early if you need to use the bathroom before we start.
Meet on the Burke Gilman Trail on the west side of the Wayne Park parking lot. Be ready to ride at 8:00 AM. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
There is plenty of parking at Wayne Park and Red Brick Road Park which adjacent to Wayne Park on the north side of the Burke Gilman Trail.
Be prepared to fix a flat or deal with minor mechanical issues.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
