Renton - U District Farmers' Market - Medina
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
Join us for a ride from Downtown Renton on a 38-mile route at Moderate pace (14 - 16 mph).
[Weather warning: please note that the temperature is expected to be in the high 80s during the ride.]
The University District Farmers' Market has been running since 1993 and is a personal favorite. We'll ride efficiently to the market (but not exceeding the posted pace) so that we can stretch out and enjoy it once we get there - expect a longer than usual rest stop of approximately 40 minutes. I go for the excellent Ethiopian food, and you are welcome to have lunch from a variety of vendors, grocery shop, and/or enjoy the market any way you like; I'll be staying with the bikes once I have my food. The return route will take us over 520 and along the southeast side of Lake Washington.
Let's meet in the Old Renton City Hall parking lot, please be ready to ride at 10:30 a.m. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to regroup frequently. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH).
Restrooms are not available at the start, but there are several cafés in downtown Renton if one is needed before the ride start time. There are also optional restroom/water stops along the way at miles 5 and 8. Our main stop will be the Farmers' Market at mile 17, where there are port-a-potties and water available. On the return leg, Medina, Enetai Beach, and Gene Colon Park have restrooms and water if needed. Please arrive hydrated in this hot weather and don't forget to sunscreen.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
