FRUMPS: Newport Hills to Maple Valley
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
Please join us for a 44-mile social ride from the Newport Hills Park & Ride to Maple Valley via May Valley and Cedar Grove, with an approximately 35-minute lunch stop at Panera Bread. The return will be on the Cedar River Trail to Renton, then the Eastrail Trail back to the start. Restrooms are not available at the start but will be available at Miles 10, 25, 34, and 39 if needed. The route will include about six miles on the Green to Cedar Rivers Trail, which has an excellent hardpack dirt surface. Even 28mm bike tires will be sufficient.
Let's meet in the Newport Hills Park & Ride at Exit 9 off of I-405. Please be ready to ride at 10 a.m. sharp. We will start with a required safety briefing and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing, you will not be able to ride with the group.
We’ll ride at a Steady pace (12-14 mph on the flats). The goal is to stay together via regrouping as necessary, but please bring navigation aids in case you need to finish on your own. When we climb hills, we will generally regroup at the tops. HOWEVER, if you can’t keep up with the group on the flat portions of the ride, we can’t wait for you, and we will have to leave you behind. So please be prepared to ride on your own. If you have any doubts, we suggest you download the map and cue sheet and, if necessary, print a copy of the cue sheet before you show up for the ride.
Be prepared to deal with flat tires and mechanicals and have a plan to take yourself back to the start if your bike can’t get you there; and/or to ride alone if you are significantly faster or slower than the Steady pace.
COVID19 continues, so if you are not feeling well--fever, cough, fatigue, congestion, sore throat--please do not register or ride with us.
Please have fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
