Lake Washington: The Inner Loop

Join us for a ride from Jack Block Park on a 35 mile route at a steady pace (12-14 mph).

You can loop around the northern end of Lake Washington, and you can loop around the southern end of the Lake, but this ride will take us along an "inner" loop, crossing to the Eastside on the 520 bike path and returning to Seattle on the I-90 bike path.  From our starting point at Jack Block Park in West Seattle, we will transit downtown Seattle on Jackson Street, heading for the Mount Baker pedestrian/bike tunnel.  Once through the tunnel, we'll turn north along the lakeshore to S.R. 520.  After crossing the Lake, we'll make a rest stop at the Medina City Hall (mile 17).  We'll have a lunch stop in the Mercer Island business district (mile 25);  after that, we return to the start via the I-90 bike path and Sodo.  For planning purposes, barring unforeseen circumstances, we estimate arriving back at the start by 2:30 p.m.

Let's meet at Jack Block Park (restrooms and water available here). If you are coming from outside of West Seattle, please allow extra time in light of the fact that the main West Seattle Bridge is out of commission.  Or consider alternative transportation (West Seattle Water Taxi or the Rapid Ride, C line).

Please be ready to ride at 9:45.  We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done.  If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.

We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to stay together. 

Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.

Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
