Free Group Ride
FRIDAY RIDERS: Everett Homes and Headstones
Event has already happened.
Join us for a ride from Martha Lake Airport Park on a 28.5 mile route at a Leisurely pace -- 10-12mph on the flats.
We'll roll past the homes and graves of two notable Everett citizens: Jane Rucker and Sen. Henry "Scoop" Jackson. Taking the Interurban Trail most of the way, we'll take a side entrance into Evergreen Cemetery to see Jackson's relatively modest grave and the massive pyramid of the Rucker mausoleum. Then we'll head north though interesting Everett neighborhoods to the Jackson home overlooking the central waterfront. From there, we'll use the Grand Avenue Park bridge to descend to the waterfront, where more points of interest await us, along with our lunch stop at Seas the Day Cafe. After lunch we'll climb into the Port Gardner neighborhood to Rucker Hill and the Rucker Mansion before we make our way back. Note that there are several hairpin or sharp right angle turns in tight spaces, especially at the Grand Avenue Park bridge. We'll make sure everyone is through safely before moving on.
This ride is a mentoring opportunity. Please contact the ride leader at least 6 days in advance so that you have time to familiarize yourself with the route. Ideally, we will pre-ride the route together.
Let's meet at the parking lot of Martha Lake Airport Park and please be ready to ride at 10am.. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to stay together, regrouping as needed. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH).
Portapotty is available at the start. We will stop for coffee/snacks/lunch at Seas the Day Cafe at mile 13.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
