Wally World: Ride for the Flowers and Birds
Event has already happened.
For a few weeks every spring daffodils, tulips, snow geese, and swans as well as a few lingering raptors are present in the Skagit Valley fields between Mt. Vernon and La Conner. The snow geese and swans are getting ready to head north for the summer and daffodils are in full bloom. The tulips are budding and only just starting to bloom. The Tulip Festival starts on April 1, just 3 days after this ride.
This is a steady paced (12 - 14 mph) very flat ride which crisscrosses the Skagit Valley between Mt. Vernon and La Conner. Because farmers rotate their fields and the birds are wherever they choose to be, the route may be modified during the ride if we see either off to the side on a road not in the RWGPS route. Since the ride is outside of the Tulip Festival, entry into RoozenGaarde is free and we will stop there briefly. The restrooms at Edgewater Park are closed until April 4. However, public restrooms and water are available at Skagit Station by the park and ride to your right just as you enter Mt. Vernon on Kincade Street (Exit 226). We will stop for a picnic lunch at small park by the Swinomish Channel in La Conner.
Let’s meet at Edgewater Park in Mt. Vernon which is to the left immediately after you cross the Skagit River. Please be ready to ride at 10:00. We will start with a required safety briefing and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing, you will not be able to ride with the group. Be sure to bring a spare tube as well as the tools and knowledge to fix a flat - we will stay with you while you fix a flat. If the roads are wet, please have fenders or plan on riding at the end of the line. This route is e-bike friendly.
Ride Cancellation: Should conditions require ride cancellation; a notice will be posted on this site by 8:00. If canceled, the ride leader will not be at the start.
We hope you can join us.
