SLOW Ride: Seattle's Black Past, Present and Future
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
Join us for a SLOW ride from Jimi Hendrix Park on a 6 mile route zig-zagging on low-traffic streets through Seattle's historic Central District. Easy pace is less than 10 mph.
We'll explore the past, present and future of Seattle's dynamic Black community through art and cultural institutions. Let's meet at the parking lot for Jimi Hendrix Park, located to the east of the Northwest African American Museum at 23rd and Massachusetts, just off the I-90 trail. Please be ready to ride at 3:30 pm. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
This is a mostly flat route with a few gentle hills (it is Seattle, after all!). Our goal is to stay together, allowing the slowest rider to set the pace. We'll stop at a number of significant sites along the way to enjoy the art and share facts about Seattle's Black past, present and future.
Restrooms are NOT available at the start. There are several establishments along with way with restrooms, and we may choose to have refreshments at one of the Black-owned restaurants and cafes along the route.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet.
Note: One of the ride leaders (Merlin) will be at the start of the ride if it's raining - we won't cancel unless it's a downpour and nobody shows up. We hope you can join us.
