The FRUMPS series on Fridays is restarting. This is the same route as Chilly Hilly, guaranteed hilly, hopefully not as chilly as February. We will ride at an effort equivalent to 12-14 mph on flat terrain.
Please note: During COVID-19 restrictions, all Free Group Rides are limited in the number of allowed participants. Registration for the ride (using the red “Register Now” button above) is REQUIRED to participate. If you decide not to ride, please click the red "Cancel My Registration" button above (or 'cancel registration' from your Cascade "My Account" dashboard) so that an additional spot will be made available to another.
Face coverings (for mouth and nose) are required when onboard the ferry, and when the group makes extended stops. Face coverings are strongly recommended for the duration of the ride. Please bring personal hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, and tissues for use at rest stops.
We will observe current social distancing guidelines when off the bike, and strive to maintain at least 10-12 ft separation between riders when on the bike.
Let's meet on board the Washington State Ferry headed to Bainbridge Island, departing from the ferry terminal at 9:35 am. Riders need to ride through the toll gate and pay $10.05 for round trip fare (ORCA card saves $1). Leader will in the bicycle waiting queue by 9:25 am. We will have the route review and pre-ride safety brief on board the vessel in the cafe area. We'll start riding around 10:25 am, right after disembarkation.
Pace: We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, regrouping as needed at the top of big climbs, with a goal of staying together for the entire route.
Restrooms: Onboard the ferry, Battle Point Park - restrooms/water at mile 14, food stop in Lynwood Center at mile 25.
Return ferries: Run approximately every hour, with no additional return fee for bikers. Recommend bringing an extra layer for warmth while waiting to board.
What to Bring: A spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case, full fenders if the roads are wet, (or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group) money for lunch. If you would like a map and cue sheet, please print one from the RWGPS route link below.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader will not be at the start location.
Hope you can join us.
