Free Group Ride
Sunrise Sammamish (CW)
Event has already happened.
Please note: During COVID-19 restrictions, all Free Group Rides are limited in the number of allowed participants. Registration for the ride (using the red “Register Now” button above) is REQUIRED to participate. If you decide not to ride, please unregister for this ride so that an additional spot will be made available to another.
This ride allows for up to ten (10) participants, including the Ride Leader.
Face coverings (for mouth and nose) are required when the group makes extended stops. Face coverings are recommended for the duration of the ride. Please bring personal hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes and tissues for personal use.
We will observe current social distancing guidelines when off the bike, and strive to maintain at least 10-12ft separation between riders when on the bike.
Join us for a ride from Confluence Park in Issaquah on a 28 mile loop around Lake Sammamish at a Brisk pace (a power effort equivalent 16-18mph in the flats on your own with no wind). Of note to indoor cyclists considered with effort, Ride Leader power is planned to average at 2.0W/kg (myself plus my bicycle). We will not exceed that, but we may adjust downward based on group needs with the goal to stay together. However, those significantly off pace should be prepared to find their own way back.
Let's meet at Confluence Park in Issaquah at 06:50 for our pre-ride safety briefing, with departure sharply at 07:00 local time.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to make rolling regroups. On multi-use paths, we will observe the posted speed limit.
Restrooms are sometimes available at the start, conditions permitting, so please don't depend on them. The intent of this ride is an uninterrupted loop, however there are optional restroom stops that I will call out in advance. Please review the route cue sheet to see where these opportunities are. Additionally, if temperatures near freezing are expected, you cannot rely on running water so please plan accordingly.
If you're comfortable to do so, please join me for refreshment at Issaquah Coffee Company immediately after the ride.
Bring a tire/tube/bicycle repair supplies, just in case. We will stop and accommodate minor situations, but individual cyclists may need to resolve major issues on their own, so please have a reliable backup plan. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criteria listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
Special commentary: This ride is posted as ice/snow cancels. The only thing I request is of everyone to be safe. Ice/snow or chance of freezing road surfaces will strictly cancel the ride, as may low visibility (downpour), excessive storm debris, high winds or an emergency situation with the Ride Leader. However, barring all else, expect this ride to be reliable when posted - if those conditions are not met, it is generally on. Please bring fenders with long flaps in consideration for other cyclists. Aim for two inches off of the ground, minimum four. "Two will do, four... ok, but could use more".
If you've ever gotten gray water or debris in your eye from someone in front of you, you'd appreciate my request. Please also observe Washington cycling laws and local ordinances about bicycle operation, reflectors and illumination (dusk to dawn minimum, but always is better), as well as protective gear. If you do not know the rules of the road, you can start by referring to a a state bicycling guide here, and I suggest reviewing RCW 46.61.750 through RCW 46.61.790. I want everyone to be safe and enjoy the ride - with that considered...
