Cascade Zwifters - Seattle Baby Steps - 1.0-1.3 w/kg (e.g., Moderate)
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
Do you Zwift and are you looking for a (virtual) supportive beginner or recovery ride with some of your IRL (in real life) Cascade friends? If so welcome to Seattle Baby Steps!
This weekly, 60 minute ride is paced at an average of 1.0-1.3 w/kg on the flats. Outside of the virtual world of Zwift this equates to a Moderate pace of 14-16 mph. (Thank you Zwift drafting algorithms!) As such this is considered a slower paced group ride and is intended for those who are newer, younger, older, returning from injuries, or just looking for a casual recovery after your last race.
Seattle Baby Steps is an enjoyable and conversational social ride where your participation is encouraged. You'll be riding with your local friends as well as folks from across the globe. The goal of this ride is to help you build strength and confidence to try the hundreds of advanced rides, races, and events that are available every week on Zwift.
How to join us:
Use the Zwift companion app to register for this ride ahead of the start time. To do this, find this ride listed for Sunday mornings at 8:15 Pacific Time . Check the box to indicate that you're coming to the ride. (No need to change things if you can't make it.) Registering ahead of time via the companion app is clever because it allows you to do a "late join" for the first 30 minutes of the ride (e.g., in case you oversleep or have some technical difficulties).
Zwift Group ride Etiquette for Newcomers:
Please respect the ride leader's pace and instructions. This is not a race and the ride leader will not chase anyone riding off the front of the group. If you feel the need to stretch your legs, do so on the sprints and then prepare to regroup immediately afterward. Faster riders are encouraged to sweep in the back to others who may be struggling to rejoin the group after sprints and inclines. Sprinkle "Ride Ons" far and wide to encourage and delight your fellow riders! Join the conversation (on-screen text), but be mindful of the younger folks (i.e., children) who join this ride from time to time.
Zwift Equipment:
You don't need a helmet, a buddy flap, or tools to repair a flat. However, you will want to be sure you haven't selected a time trial (tt) bike, because time trial bikes cannot draft with the group. (You'll end up working much harder to keep up with the group on your time trial bike. Unless that's what you want....)
Zwift Weather:
Watopia is known for its volcanic eruptions and frequent rain and thunderstorms. These virtual weather disruptions will not cancel our group ride. We always ride!
