****NOTE: START TIME AT 09:45 A.M. and BRING CASH ONLY for PIE (or other treats!)****
Join us for a steady, social, and occasionally hilly ride from Marymoor Park (Redmond) to Bothell for Pie! The route starts/ends at East Lake Samammish Trailhead parking lot adjacent to Whole Foods. There is a porta-potty at the start but not water. This is a mid-week ride on bike friendly trails and roads. We will head west on the 520 Trail (encountering our largest hills), cross the 520 Bridge, and then go north through residential areas of Seattle. We will meet up with Jeff and Chris Almgren's Pie Ride just before noon at Matthews Beach (mile 19.2) and join them on the route to the Northshore Senior Center (NSSC) for pie, brownie or cookies (ice cream is an option!) at our route mile 27.7. We will be there for about 45 minutes for pie and refreshments and then we will return to Marymoor via a combination of local roads and the Sammamish River Trail.
There are hills on this ride, but we climb the hills at our own pace and always regroup at the top. I anticipate to this ride to be on the low end of Steady. Faster riders are welcome, but if they ride off the front of the group, their ride becomes self-paced.
For our pie, brownie or cookie break at NSSC, a variety of homemade pies with ice cream, whip cream and coffee are usually available for riders to purchase at a reasonable price. Please BRING CASH ONLY for any purchases, since they do not take charge or debit cards. We will be there for about 45 minutes. This week we can ask Jeff and Chris for a few choice stories about their adventures on the 4300 mile transcontinental bicycle ride which they just completed. Should be fun!
Riders should be able to sustain the pace, carry nutrition/water, and have the know-how and equipment to fix a flat tire. Everyone should carry a phone to call for assistance if needed. We will regroup after climbs and at major intersections. New riders are welcome - please see the Cascade Bicycle Club web page for new riders as noted below.
Please arrive in time to be ready for the Safety & Route Briefing at 9:30 am with our plan to start the ride at 09:45 a.m sharp.
