Free Group Ride
MUMPS: North to Snohomish (Brisk)
Event has already happened.
MUMPS heads up into Snohomish County and over to Snohomish via Lowell Larimer and Lowell Snohomish River Road. Beautiful open countryside! Following coffee at Snohomish Bakery, it's back to the start via Springhetti, Broadway and Bositian.
Starting time and location: Ride starts at 10:00 am at Log Boom Park in Kenmore, where there is a restroom.
Parking: Street parking is available on NE 175th St, just east of the entrance to the park. Let's leave the parking lot open for park users.
Pace: This is a Brisk-paced ride, typically around 17-18 mph on the flats. When on multi-use trails we will observe the trail speed limit.
We will be riding the same route as the vigorous and moderate MUMPS group. Riders may choose to start with one group and drop back (or move up) to find a pace that is appropriate; you may register online for more than one pace group if you might use that option.
We will occasionally pause briefly to regroup, but may not wait for riders substantially off group pace; be prepared to finish with the moderate group in that case. Please bring navigation aids in case you need to finish on your own. The ride becomes self-led for those ahead of or behind the group.
Route: The planned route/cue sheet is at the link below.
Restrooms: We'll catch our breath at the top of Seattle Hill Road (Starbucks), mile 15.6 ; break for coffee at mile 27.9; and stop at Maltby Park (with it's awesome new water-bottle filler!) at mile 35.7.
Food: The Sammamish Bakery coffee stop will be brief (about 25 min.) Note that there may be a long wait if you order anything more complicated than coffee and pastry; you may need to finish the ride with the moderate group in that case.
Cancellation: Forecast for rain or unsafe riding conditions will be cause for cancellation, in which case the ride leader will not be at the start and the cancellation will be posted (in Comments, below) at least 2 hours before the start.
Fenders: Please be considerate of other riders' comfort and safety by using full fenders with long mud flaps if rain is expected or the roads are wet. You may still ride with us without them, but if you are spraying other riders you will need to drop to the back of the group.
Repairs: Please come with the equipment and know-how to take care of your own flats and mechanicals or with a plan for getting back to the start if your bike won't take you there. If you have a problem the group will stop briefly to make sure you will be OK on your own, but we will not wait for repairs to be completed.
Safety talk and on time-departure: Riders should ready to ride 10 minutes before the start time to participate in the safety talk.
Pre-registration: Please register in advance by clicking the red Register Now button at the top of this page at least two hours pre ride start (this saves time at the start and enables the leader to email you in case of changes). You can also register manually at the start.
