Join us for a ride from Rattlesnake Lake (Cedar Falls Trailhead) on a 49 mile route at Brisk Effort 15 to 17 mph on gravel!
Directions to ride start: From I-90 at the East end of North Bend, take Exit 32 (436th Ave SE) and head south on 436th Ave SE, which becomes Cedar Falls Road SE. About 3.5 miles from I-90, pass the parking area for Rattlesnake Lake and soon turn left into the parking area for the Cedar Falls Trailhead (Iron Horse State Park.) Toilets are located near the trailhead.
Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail (Formally known as the Iron Horse Trail) is an old railway that stretches across the Cascade Mountains. More information at the link below. We will doing a 22 mile section from Rattlesnake Lake through a 2.3 mile tunnel to a viewpoint of Lake Keechelus. We get onto paved roads that parallel I-90 and climb up to the top of the pass for lunch at the Commonwealth restaurant. After lunch we descend the canyon between Eastbound and Westbound I-90 and through Denny Creek Campground. We cross to the south side of I-90 leaving the pavement onto a gravel road with lots of potholes for about four miles. From there we cut onto a abandoned road up to the rail trail. We finish the ride with a 2% downhill for the last ten miles.
We will start off at the same time as the Moderate pace "Through the Tunnel" ride and socialize with them for a few miles up the trail.
Let's meet at Cedar Falls Trail head at 9:15 for our pre-ride safety briefing, with a departure at 9:30.
A Discover Pass is required. A day pass may be purchased at the trailhead.
NOTE: Arrive 15 minutes prior to start to get yourself ready and hear the ride briefing.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to regroup occasionally at turns or tunnels.
