Free Group Ride
MUMPS: Do The Lake Counterclockwise (Brisk)
Event has already happened.
This week we'll ride a counterclockwise lake loop out of Log Boom Park. There is a four hour parking restriction at the park; if you are concerned it might be enforced you can park to the east on NE 175th.
Moderate and brisk will be riding the same route, except that moderate makes a Starbucks stop at mile 30, while brisk makes a quick stop at Coulon Park instead (mile 27). Brisk riders may be able to "fall back" to the moderate group along the way, but please bring navigation aids in case you need to finish on your own (the ride becomes self-led for those ahead of or behind the group).
Join us for all or part of the route. Start at Log Boom Park or meet us at Seward Park. We will also slow down at Starbucks Leschi at about 11:15 to pick up anyone waiting for us on the curb. Be aware that the route may be shortened without advance notice to cross the lake on the 520 trail or I-90 trail, depending on weather and mood of the group, in which case we won't make it to Seward
We usually ride in the upper end of the brisk pace range. We will observe the speed limit on the multi-use trails.
BRING SNACKS! The brisk group will pause at three excellent rest stops (Seward, Coulon, and Marina Parks, in addition to a quick stop early on at Matthews) but won't make any restaurant/cafe stops. So bring your own food.
Come equipped with tools and knowledge to repair flats; we may pause briefly to see if you have what you need for flat repair or minor mechanicals, but have a phone and a plan to get home/back to the start if needed.
If there's a chance of precipitation, fenders with long mud flaps are recommended. Anywhere the road is wet, if you don't have stable flaps extending to within a few inches of the ground, you'll need to take the initiative to stay behind everyone with better fenders.
Please register at least two hours in advance by clicking the red Register Now button at the top of this page, as this saves time at the start and enables the leader to email you in case of changes. You'll need a Cascade Bicycle Club account, which makes you a Basic-level member of the Club at no charge. Or you can register manually at the start. You don't have to un-register if you can't make the ride.
Plan to arrive 15 minutes early for briefing and ride prep so that we can leave on time.
Cancellation: Forecast for rain, snow, ice/frost or other unsafe riding conditions will be cause for cancellation, in which case the ride leader will not be at the start and the cancellation will be posted (in Comments, below) at least 2 hours before the start. Check your email before heading to the start if you registered online.
