Free Group Ride
Stay on Your Bike in Kirkland
Event has already happened.
Join us for a Stay on Your Bike in Kirkland ride. This is your opportunity to continue riding throughout the year for health, fitness or just fun! It is also an opportunity to meet cycling friends, learn a new route, fine tune your riding skills, and feel confident riding in a group.
We start and finish at the Chainline Brewing Company in Kirkland, next door to the Google Campus and on the Cross Kirkland Corridor. Please park at the far south end of the parking lot. Arrive 20 minutes before the published start time to ready your bike and check in. Restrooms will be at the 1-mile mark. It is recommended that you bring a snack to eat mid-ride.
Register - Please sign the e-waiver by clicking on the “Register Now” button at the top of this page (right below the ride title) and enter your information. If you cannot make the ride, you do not need to unregister.
Weather - Showers or more severe weather will cancel the ride. Ride cancellation will be announced in the comments section at least two hours before start time and the ride leaders will not be at the start. Remember to dress appropriately for the weather.
This route takes us first to Marina Park for a rest stop at the one mile mark and then south along Lake Washington Blvd and east on the 520 Trail. We will exit the trail at NE 60th St. and transition over to Grass Lawn Park for a rest stop. We return via Old Redmond Road west for a short distance before riding north on 132nd Ave NE to Slater Road and NE 116th St. The route then turns south on the Cross Kirkland Corridor to NE 112th Ave NE, Forbes Creek Road, through Juanita Bay Park, and back to the start on Waverly Way and Kirkland Ave/Way. The route involves climbing some hills, a couple are steep but short, but we regroup at the top. After the ride, join us at the brewery for refreshments and more conversation about biking.
"Leisurely Pace" is 10-12 mph on flat surface without any headwind. We will go slower on the uphills or with a headwind and faster going downhill. Average walking speed is around 3 mph, so we will be 3-4 times faster!
