This will be a history ride to visit and learn some facts about various historic and interesting places around Southwest Lake Washington and the Rainier Valley. We will meet at the Atlantic City Boat Ramp parking lot bathroom building (8702 Seward Park Ave S, Seattle, WA 98118) near Beer Sheva Park. Parking can be found along Seward Park Ave S, S Henderson St, and Wabash Ave S. The Atlantic City Boat Ramp is easily accessible from the Link light rail; get off at Rainier Beach Station and head east on South Henderson Street for 0.8 miles to get to Beer Sheva Park (it’s at the end of South Henderson Street).
We will first head south to Kubota Garden, then Cedar River Trail Park at the south end of Lake Washington. Next, we will head along Rainier Ave back to the start for a water/restroom stop and to allow riders doing the shorter route to join. After that, we will ride north through the neighborhoods of Rainier Valley to visit a few more sites before riding along the I-90 Trail to get to Leschi. Once at Leschi, we will head south along the shore of Lake Washington to Seward Park and back to the start. There are a total of 14 stops on this ride during which the ride leader will give a few details about the history/geography/etc.
Please arrive 30 minutes prior to ride start. Please sign the electronic waiver by creating a free account on the Cascade website. Please bring basic tools (extra tubes, patch kit, etc.) as well as water and snacks, as it may be warm that day. Have a back-up plan in case you are unable to finish (friend/family who can pick you up, ORCA card to use public transit).
Optional shorter ride: riders who want to ride a shorter 17 mile portion of the route can join the group when we take a water/restroom break after the first 13 miles. If you want to do the shorter ride, you must both message (e-mail or text) the ride leader at least a day before the ride and show up at the starting point by 10:45 a.m. You will miss the first 4 stops of the ride but will enjoy the final 10 stops.
Cancellations: In the event of a weather cancellation, a notice will be posted in the comments on this page at least two hours before the ride and the ride leader will not be at the ride start location. Cue sheets will not be provided, please print one if desired. Restrooms: there are restrooms at the start, Cedar River Trail Park (mile 7.6), Atlantic City Boat Ramp (mile 12.9), Mount Baker Beach (mile 25.0), and Seward Park (mile 28.0).
E-bikes: This is an e-bike-friendly ride for those with Class 1 or Class 2 e-bikes (Class 3 e-bikes are not allowed because we will be riding on some trails). See the Cascade Ebike FAQ’s link for more information. Be sure to have your battery/power pack fully charged before you arrive for the ride.
