Coffee Run: Kenmore-Bellevue
Event has already happened.
Join me for a loop through the eastside burbs. We'll start out in Kenmore and work our way toward Bellevue rolling through Kirkland and Medina before taking a break at either Belle Pastry or Whole Foods. Our return brings us through Bridal Trails, Redmond, Woodinville, and Bothell. Most of the ride will be on roads, but we'll hop on the 520, Sammamish River, and Burke Gilman trails for short spurts.
Most of the route prior to Redmond has hills or gentle upgrades that look flat, but your legs and heart tell you otherwise. We'll warm up our legs with a climb up Jaunita Drive. No need to worry, we'll take it easy since it begins at about 1.5 miles. After our uphill warmup we'll be rewarded with a fun descent into Kirkland before climbing up Market and a mostly flat run along Lake WA. From there we'll have ups and downs until our coffee break. The remainder of the route is much more sedate with the gentle upgrade of 116th through Bridal Trails followed by a mellow return to Kenmore.
We'll maintain a moderate pace (14-16 mph) on the flats w/o the benefit or hindrance of wind, slower on the uphills, faster on the downhills. Ascents & descents will be ridden at your own pace. This is a stay together ride, regrouping at the top and bottom of hills.
Riders should bring tools and knowledge to repair flats and minor mechanicals. Please have a backup plan (someone to call or an ORCA card) for any major mechanical that may occur. It happens!
While a food stop is planned, it is highly recommended that riders carry ample hydration and a snack.
Fenders are appreciated unless it is bone dry on the roads. This is for the safety and comfort of your fellow riders as well as yourself. No fenders means you are happy to ride in the back.
Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early in order to prepare yourself and your bike prior to the safety briefing. Ride rolls out promptly at 10:00.
Restrooms available at the start.
