Event has already happened.
Will bike for ice cream - really good ice cream! We're going to meet at the Harbor History Museum on the waterfront in historic downtown Gig Harbor. Please arrive around 9:15 so we have time for introductions and a brief safety talk before we leave. If you are coming by car, we have permission from the museum to use their parking lot and there is a washroom at the park acrosss the street. The ride takes us up out of the harbor, over the bridge and to Point Defiance Park for a loop along the five mile drive. Then we'll drop down to Point Ruston for a stop at Ice Cream Social. The return trip is along scenic Ruston Way, up through Old Town Tacoma and North Tacoma on our way back to bridge and Cushman Trail back to the start. There's a link to the "Ride with GPS" route below and you can print a cue sheet if you would like one or download to a navigation device.
There are some hills on this ride -we'll take them at our own pace and regroup at the top. The pace is moderate, defined as 14 to 16 miles per hour on flat terrain with no wind. New riders are especially welcome! If you ar new to Cascade Free Group Rides, please review the information found when you click on "read our newcoming information" at the top. Feel free to post a comment or message me if you have any questions.
Register for the ride by clicking the red "register now" button. You do not need to be a member of Cascade to register on-line, you merely need to create a free account. Doing this beforehand will save us time at the start and then I will also have your information clearly written on my paperwork.
The Museum will be opening as we return and it is worth a visit - admission is free thanks to a grant from the people of the city of Gig Harbor and as a participant of Bike to a Business- Gig Harbor, they have a special gift for bike riders. For post ride lunch, Millville Pizza and the Trolley @ the Boatyard, both on Harborview just down the street from the museum, are also offering special deals for bike riders. The Facebook group for Bike to a Business - Gig Harbor is linked below, join to be entered into monthly prize drawings.
Helmets are required for all participants on Cascade Free Group rides. Some other good things to have: WATER, a charged cell phone, a credit card and some cash, ID, supplies to fix a flat (spare tube, pump, tire levers) snacks, fenders on your bike if roads are wet, front and back lights.
