Interested in learning about Cascade's High Performance Cycling (HPC) Team?
This is the ride portion of our 2018 kick-off weekend. Note that this ride starts at Center Cycle and will meet with the other group that is starting from Sam Smith. Also, we are hosting a 2018 Kick Off Meeting at Center Cycle on Saturday February 3 at 5:00PM. At this meeting we discuss the details of the team and team membership.
HPC is intended for cyclists who like to ride fast, hard, far, and climb hills in a non-racing environment. The team is dedicated to supporting strong cyclists who want to improve their skills and fitness while practicing safe group cycling techniques. Although we are not a racing team, some teammates are also members of WSBA racing teams, participate in ultra and randonneuring events, or compete in multisport events. Cascade's High Performance Cycling Team is perfect fit for:
- Riders who are developing fitness and skills and want to ride with folks who are faster and more experienced
- Strong riders who are looking for compatible cycling buddies who regularly do long, scenic, challenging rides
- Racers who want to diversify and ride with folks who regularly do long, scenic, challenging rides
We will conduct a safety briefing at 09:20 AM and depart promptly at 9:30 AM from Center Cycle. No cue sheet will be provided. We'll ride north through Renton and then continue on Lake Washington Blvd and stop at Coulon Park to pick up additional riders at 10:00. At Coulon Park, we will have brief discussion about HPC. After Coulon Park riders have the option to do a south Lake Washington loop via the I-90 bridge, do a "hot lap" around Mercer Island, or head out to Issaquah for some additional miles/hills and a coffee stop. Depending on attendance, the Issaquah option may also include a mini paceline/group riding skills clinic.
From the start to Coulon Park we roll at less than 18 mph on the flats. On the optional Mercer Island or the Issaquah portions of the ride, we may break up into speed-based groups that may go faster than 18 mph, with the fastest group on the Mercer Island lap typically exceeding 23 mph. Ride time will vary depending on which option you choose--from 1.5 to 4+ hours.
If you start at Coulon Park you will be responsible for getting back there from Center Cycle at the end of the ride. Make sure you bring bike fenders, adequate hydration, nutrition and funds in case we stop for coffee.
**Steady rain cancels. I will not be at the ride start should conditions be as noted in “Weather Cancels” above. I will announce the cancellation in the comments section below at least two hours prior to the ride start and will monitor my phone and/or email listed in the Contact information. If you have questions about the weather, please call (or email) before you leave for the ride.**
