Gravel: Hyak 3 Passes
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
This is a challenging loop along three minor passes: Stampede, Tacoma, and Keechelus Ridge. At 67 miles/6700' this ride would make a great training ride for those registered for GF Winthrop or similar challenge. The route is here https://ridewithgps.com/routes/15932271
There are a couple options to ride 2 of the 3 passes if you need to bailout early. One route is 52 miles and 4000' seen here https://ridewithgps.com/routes/24713268 the other at 61 mi and 4700' is https://ridewithgps.com/routes/24713351
Pacing for these rides is usually set according to an effort level as if it were a road ride. I find typically that we cover an average 10 miles for every hour of saddle time. Every attempt will be made to accommodate a range of abilities, but if you are far off the pace you should be prepared to self navagate. This is a hard ride. If you are not as familiar riding gravel, are under-biked or doubt your fitness, the 2-pass option is a good choice. I recommend 32mm tires or better for this route. We will regroup at the summits and at major intersections.
BE PREPAIRED. These are mountains. It can get cold quickly, you are not near anything, and your phone will only work to take pictures. Plan your hydration and nutrition accordingly. There is a convenience store in Easton at MP 40. A hydration pack is recommemded as is GPS navagation (no cue sheets provided). Bring at least two tubes and enough air.
There are restrooms at the start. A Discovery Pass is required for parking.
