Event has already happened.
Answer the call to ride and join the Seattle Cycle Sirens (SCS) for our FREE Clinic-and-a-ride event! This is part of the SCS's effort to host women-friendly training rides this summer to help riders prepare for group ride events like Cycle the WAVE (Women Against Violence Everywhere), Bike-n-Brews El Norte, Kitsap Color Classic and more.
The clinic/talk features Mary Craig of Live ALIVE Fit and will start at 8:30 a.m. at Magnuson Park, just north of the restrooms at "Kite Hill" where we can sit at some picnic tables. (To get to Kite Hill, enter the park at NE 65th Street off Sandpoint Way. Go straight ahead to the lake, then left (north) along the shoreline. Park next to Kite Hill and the Fin Art Project, near the swimming beach.) Mary is an author, inspirational speaker, Certified Health and Fitness Coach who will spend some time talking to us about Athlete Nutrition and Goal Setting. This talk is for athletes of all abilities and experience!
This special talk will focus on cycling nutrition and goal setting. After that, we will go for a ride! This is the Magnuson Park to Seward Park route. This is a fun ride that will take us along beautiful Lake Washington Blvd and then through the arboretum for our return to Magnuson. This route will be approximately 26 miles at a STEADY pace. Please note that this route will be more challenging than our rides from prior weeks since there are a few inclines that will serve to challenge us along the way. (Not to worry though, everyone can take these inclines at their own pace and we will regroup at the top.)
The Ride Leader(s) for this route will be leading a Moderate paced ride (14-16) mph on the flats with no headwinds or tailwinds). Those who wish to ride at a faster pace are welcome to do so, but it will then become a self-paced ride for them. Slower riders are also welcome to take the route at their own pace as this is a NO-DROP ride and we will regroup as needed along the way.
The clinic/talk will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the ride will begin at 9:15 a.m., so please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early to ready your bike, sign the waiver and participate in the SMART safety briefing. (This week's topic will be the care and maintenance of your chain!)
Riders are expected to have the following with them: a properly fitted helmet, water, a spare tube, a pump and other tools to change a flat tire.
A limited number of printed cue sheets will be available at the start.
