Sumner/Waller Road Loop - Pierce County - Steady
Event has already happened.
Join us for multi-pace rides in Pierce County. We’re leaving from the parking lot north of the Sumner Transit Center (just off Main Street, 848 Main Street, see map), heading through Puyallup, up Waller Road hill into rural areas of Summit and South Hill, then down into the Puyallup valley and back.
There will be 3 paces offered: steady (12-14 on flats), moderate (14-16 on flats), and brisk (16-18 on the flats).
Please RSVP to Meetup for ride updates. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to 09:30 AM to hear the route briefing, safety presentation, and sign the waiver form for an on-time departure.
Riders should be able to sustain the appropriate pace for their selected group, know how to read a cue sheet, change a flat tire (and have the requisite equipment to do so) and have a positive attitude. Ride Leaders and Sweeps will not stop long for flats or mechanical issues due to group safety.
A limited number of cue sheets will be available at the ride start so please print your own just in case. Rest stops will be planned as noted on the route cue sheet.
• Distance: 31 miles
• Terrain: 1,200 ft of elevation
• Regroup Policy: Top of hills and/or when the route might be confusing.
• Weather Cancellation policy: Steady rain cancels (or snow/ice). But it will need to be heavy, steady rain.
• Please bring a cue sheet or load the route on GPS.
If it is wet or raining, long fenders (with buddy flaps) are highly encouraged. No one wants to ride in someone's rooster tail. If the roads are wet and your bike is not equipped with fenders, you will be asked to ride at the rear to prevent spraying others. Mechanicals are the responsibility of each rider, so we will generally not ask the entire group to wait. Please be sure you have the equipment and knowledge to change a flat and handle whatever else comes up. Group will wait at ride leader’s discretion.
Directions to start: From Hwy 410, take the Traffic Ave/East Main exit, and head north on Traffic Ave. Turn right on Main street the parking lot will be on your right.
