Indoor Cycling Classes
by Maria Comstock

As a training method, Indoor Cycling is an excellent way of reproducing the feel of biking without going outdoors. Why not just bike outdoors? If there’s no reason not to, then absolutely bike outdoors. What makes these classes different from the usual boredom of stationary cycling is the visual imagery and technique provided by instructors. If you want to save time by limiting your gear, get a high intensity, shorter-duration workout, don’t want to deal with the weather, need a little extra motivation from an instructor, want to avoid physical risk, want a little training advice or enjoy the social aspect of a group class, indoor cycling can provide for you.

People often ask, “What is the difference between Spinning and any other Indoor Cycling program?”. The difference between “Spinning” and “Indoor Cycling” is the same as the difference between “RollerBlading” vs. “Inline Skating”. Mainly that one is a brand name and the other is the generic term for that activity. With a class that is called “Spinning”, the bike is a Johnny G. Spinner bike AND the instructor has been to a Johnny G. Instructor Training. Gyms and Clubs may call their indoor cycling program Ultimate Cycling, Power Cycling or have seasonal specialty programs to train specifcally for an event like a triathlon or the STP.

Below is a short list of clubs and gyms that have an indoor cycling program. Several clubs have multiple branches, so be sure to call to find the one nearest to you.
