Board Candidate: Tarrell Wright
Email me at tarrellw@gmail.com.
I’m honored to be considered for a position on the Cascade Bicycle Club Board. As a year-round bike commuter, first time STP and RSVPer (2011!), and passionate environmentalist, the CBC mission is one that is near and dear to my heart. As a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), I bring to the table over 18+ years’ experience helping non-profit boards raise money to support their missions. I currently serve as the Development Director for Washington Environmental Council and Washington Conservation Voters and hold relationships with many key players in the environmental philanthropic community.
Washington is one of the safest, most spectacular places to ride. On my way into downtown Seattle from Ballard every morning, I never tire of the Sound and Olympics on my right and Rainier (when she’s out) up ahead. When I arrive at work refreshed and ready to start my day I know that I can thank organizations like the CBC for making my ride safe and easy. Even in the three short years that I’ve been bike commuting, I’ve noticed new bike lanes go up, signs that direct me to different neighborhoods, and, most importantly, I’ve noticed that cars are starting to expect to see bikers and look for us. I want to give back to a community that has given me so much.
As the country’s largest bicycle club we can also provide a road map for solutions to many of our society’s ailments. The way we build our cities and transportation infrastructure has a direct impact on the physical and economic health of our region. We can develop our communities in ways that lead to sprawl or unnecessary pollution, or we can develop in ways that promote cycling, cleaner air and healthier children. The voices of our thousands of members can have a huge influence on lawmakers, and subsequently, the way that we move forward as a state. As a board member, I will use my skills as a fundraising professional, passionate environmentalist and dedicated bike commuter to help harness the passion of our thousands of members and keep pushing for progress.
